Our Story
Topspec Projects began with genuine passion for quality carpentry and the satisfaction of building things properly. After many years on Canberra sites, working on everything from new residential builds to detailed renovation park, we wanted to run jobs the way we believed they should be run: skilled hands on the tools, materials chosen to last, and a level of care that shows in the details most people never see.
That is what led to Topspec Projects, and it is still the reason we take on every job because good work is worth doing well, and a home built or renovated properly will be enjoyed for decades.
What Sets Topspec Projects Apart
-
20+ Years of Industry Experience
With many years spent on Canberra sites, we've encountered most problems before: the awkward subfloor, the heritage overlay, the supplier who goes quiet. Experience is what lets us price a job honestly and get it right the first time.
-
Fully Licensed, Insured and Certified
ACT building licence (number), full public liability and workers compensation cover, and industry certification behind every project. Written contracts with clear inclusions, so you know exactly what you are paying for.
-
End-to-End Project Management
From first measure to final handover, we manage the trades, the suppliers and the schedule. Our plumbers, electricians, plasterers and tilers have worked alongside us for years, which is why timelines hold and quality stays consistent.
-
Sustainable, Modern Building Practices
Modern construction methods combined with materials chosen to last; better thermal performance, less waste, and a build that still looks right in twenty years.
-
On Time and On Budget
Careful planning upfront means realistic dates and realistic numbers. If something changes, you hear about it from us early, in writing before any work goes ahead.
Our Promise
A build or a renovation takes over your home for months, and it is paid for with money you have worked for. We do not take that lightly. You will hear from us often and in plain language: what is happening this week, what is coming next, and which trades will be on your property.
That promise holds on every job we take, whether it is a new home build or pergola installation. The scope changes from project to project. The standard behind it never does.
Frequently Asked Questions
One point of contact from first quote to final handover. You will not be chasing separate trades or wondering is responsible for what, and you will know in advance who is coming to your property and when.
Not at all. Much of our work is on established homes across Canberra's older suburbs, and we know what to expect from them: timber framing that has moved, outdated wiring and plumbing, pre-1990 materials that may contain asbestos. Where asbestos is identified, it is removed by a licensed asbestos removalist before our work continues, as required in the ACT.
Variations are handled in writing before any work goes ahead. You see the cost and the time impact, and you approve it. Nothing gets added to your bill as a surprise at the end.
It depends on the work. Many smaller decks and pergolas in the ACT fall under exempt development if they meet the size, height and setback rules, while new homes, extensions and structural changes need building approval and often development approval through Access Canberra. We will tell you which category your project falls into and can manage the approval process, including certifier and engineering requirements, on your behalf.
We use a trusted network of trade partners we have worked with for years, all supervised by us on site. However, you deal with one point of contact for the whole project rather than coordinating trades yourself.
Three main areas: new home builds, renovations (including bathrooms, kitchen and wet areas) and outdoor living, such as decks, pergolas, cladding and feature walls. If you are unsure whether your project suits us, call and ask - we will tell you honestly either way.
Yes. We work with architects and designers we trust and can take a project from a rough idea through to drawings, approvals, and construction. If you already have plans from your own designer, we are happy to build from those and can give you practical feedback on buildability and cost before you commit.
